Pouring crucible

Analysis of the chemical composition in ferrous and non-ferrous melts

Cast iron is an iron-carbon alloy (Fe-C) that also contains silicon (Si), phosphorus (P), sulphur (S), manganese (Mn) and other alloying elements in variable concentrations. Precise determination of the carbon equivalent value (CEV), the degree of saturation and the content of carbon (C) and silicon (Si) is essential for reliable control of the casting process.

The thermal analysis is based on the evaluation of cooling curves, which are recorded using special disposable measuring cups (thermal analysis crucibles). Essential chemical parameters can be derived from these temperature curves, in particular the carbon equivalent value (CE), the carbon content (C) and the silicon content (Si).

For applications that require white solidification of the melt, a tellurium coating is applied to the base of the measuring cup. This facilitates targeted solidification modification and improves the reproducibility of the measurement results.

MINKON Pouring crucibles are compatible with common device technology and are available in the following versions:

Gray solidification

  • Standard, uninoculated

White solidification

  • Te-inoculated
  • TeS-inoculated
